In this world where plastic is becoming a heavy usage in our lives. How can we avoid eating plastic? Let this blog tell you ways to tackle this issue.
Plastic contaminates food and water very seriously these days. Just because it is widely used doesn’t mean it is safe to use. Sometimes when you see the news where sea turtles can’t digest plastic thrown in the sea. They always end up dead or struggling to survive. Well, it goes the same for humans. Unintentionally ingesting plastic can negatively affect our health.
Some things are not meant to eat, and plastic is one of them. Many people don’t realise that just because you are not directly ingesting a piece of plastic, you are still ingesting plastic particles known as micro-plastics. With that being said, let’s take a look at ways you can avoid eating plastic.
1. Don’t Use Plastic Bottles to Drink Water
Mineral water selling at a convenient store or any other market place is packed in a plastic bottle. It is not advisable to drink regularly in these bottles. If you forgot to bring your water bottle when you head out and have no choice but to buy mineral water, it’s excusable as we tend to forget things sometimes. Moreover, drinking water is better than not drinking. Otherwise, it is always best to bring your own bottle out instead of buying them outside. This helps you maintain your health and save some money. Win-win, isn’t it?
2. Don’t Use Plastic Container for Hot Food
Putting your hot food in a plastic container will cause the plastic to emit harmful chemicals into the food, which will lead to serious health problems. These chemicals may disrupt human reproduction, which leads to infertility, and may also cause diabetes and hypertension at an early age (Source).
3. Replace Plastic Containers with Glass or Stainless Steel Containers
Either way, plastic containers are harmful for the environment and our body. When we head out to pack our meals, you can bring along glass or stainless steel containers for takeaway. Also, you can replace your plastic straws with glass or stainless steel ones.
4. Try To Avoid Plastic Packaging Goods.
Plastics considers as the most cost-efficient material when it comes to packaging. Many groceries, goods, and food deliveries use plastic material packaging. We can try to look for similar items with more eco-friendly packaging such as paper. Some may argue that using paper is like killing trees.
Know this, 1. Paper is biodegradable within a short period. 2. Environmental friendly. 3. It does not emit chemicals that will harm our body. 4. Trees can be planted and grow again.
On the contrary, plastic is 1. Non-biodegradable. 2. Non-environmental friendly. 3. It emits harmful chemicals to us. 4. Most plastics can’t be recycled.
These little efforts that you and I make will have a significant change on our bodies and environment. Human health and Earth health are vital. Don’t you think these changes will be a win-win situation? Say NO to plastic! 🙅♀️🙅♂️
